Surviving the Holidays Single!

You have probably heard the expression, the holiday blues. We all know the holidays can be challenging for everyone. And they can be an especially tough time for single people.>

Sitting at the odd seat at the table can feel pretty lonely sometimes.

Fielding questions from family members like “don’t you think it is time you got married?” or “whatever happened to “John, he was such a nice man”.

Some years are worse than others and if this is a tough year for you, don’t give up hope.

If you are really feeling the blues this year the first thing to do is give in to it and have a good cry! Watch a sad movie, take a long hot bubble bath, look at old pictures, whatever you need to do allow yourself to grieve.

Denying your feelings and putting on a brave front will just prolong your depression. Have a good cry now and I promise you will find the energy you need to turn this holiday season around.

So what is the cure for the holiday blues? PLANNING!!!

Here are four great ideas for planning your holiday season.

PLAN time to connect with family and friends. Isolating during the holiday season will only contribute to feeling alone. Reach out to your family and friends.

PLAN a special treat for yourself. Go the spa and get the special aromatherapy massage you always wanted. Take an afternoon off work and watch the new Twilight movie or It’s a Beautiful Life.

PLAN to attend one social event. The holidays can be great time to meet new people, including your True Love. Find one holiday party to attend this year and have fun.

PLAN to volunteer for one charity event. There is nothing like helping others to lift up your spirits and move you into a place of joy and gratitude. Great ideas for volunteering is a fund raising event, soup kitchen or toy and clothing drive.
